Either the ADs at La Mirada and Nogales are ignorant or the freshman coaches at some schools are. Both claimed they had never heard of the new rules regarding coaches in uniform (Nogales' head coach Tim) and were shocked, shocked!, to hear the players cannot wear Lance Armstrong-type bands. I am sure others are going to hear these lines of bull. Don't let them plead ignorance!
I asked both coaches if they had received Ken's letter and about the uniforms AND about the braclets. Both Tim from Nogales and Derrick from La Mirada looked like I had told them a camel was walking on the field backwards! Of course, when I made a "no call" that Derrick didn't like, he chipped about "you can see every kid's bracelet but you couldn't call that?" Nice.
The point is freshman coaches and maybe some JV guys are going to try to pull this junk on us umpires. Don't let them push this back on you. I am no red-ass out there, I personally don't have a problem with the bands, but the rules are the rules! I will be enforcing this and I hope the new guys on our crew stand up to these coaches, as well.

Yes, Ken did. But, when do you make the choice to not enforce a rule? NFHS - Rule (6-1-2) "With his feet in the wind-up positon, the pitcher may only delever a pitch or step backwards off the pitchers plate with his pivot foot first. After the pitcher has placed his pivot foot clearly behind the plate, he has the right to change to the set position or throw or feint to a base the same as that of any infielder."

The Walnut JV coach was playing dumb when I reminded him about the uniform enforcement rule. They recently hosted Nogales. Al Coury Sr. and his coaches suited up and showed up in their u-knees.
