I would suggest to the group that you get dressed early and go up to the field when West Covina is playing. First game of the season and the opposing coach griped to us that WC stood along the lines during their infield. We were close by, in the parking lot getting ready, and didn't see this, but the head coach (Chad?) admitted it. He said they were "just watching infield and didn't mean to" intimidate. This is a team in our area, so be prepared. The rules are their, guys, and there are teams who won't follow them. (The opposing coach was a whiner, but that doesn't make matters different.)
We were close by, like I said, but we should have gone up and taken a look. The teams are going to do stuff, let's keep them in line! I know I will do better next time.

Kevin: Many times this situation can be avoided by checking in with the home coach prior to even getting dressed. As we have discussed in our general classes and clinics, if you can get to the game 45 minutes prior to start, you have time to check in with the home coach to let them know you are there and ready to go. Many times you can take care of this situation. You can also let us know who the team was, so we can pass the word on to the other members so they can be aware of this situation.

Rick: In the game I mentioned, my partner and I were there an hour before and one team still did the stunt. I emailed Ken Allan that, in 3 out of 4 games, this has been an issue. The one it wasn't, we walked on the field as infield was being started, got the offending team in the dugout (to loud groans and complaints from players and coaches) and made it known to the other team, as well. It would require us being ready and near the field 1/2 before game time but, if it's needed, we should do it. Teams are "playing dumb" and we need to enforce the rule. Wouldn't you agree?

Yes I would agree. Good job enforcing the rule. I am glad that we are out there doing just that. I know that when a coach tells me that I am the only umpire that enforces those rules, I known he is full of
