The following interpretations have been added to the CIF www.cifstate.org/ website: 1-2-4 It is recommended that when the dugout area is extended, for any reason, it shall be extended toward the outfield on a line parallel to the foul line. The extension of the dugout area shall be equally applied for both teams. INTERPRETATION: It is permissible for both coaches and players to occupy the extended area. 3-3-1-j A coach, player, substitute, attendant or other bench personnel shall not....(j) be outside the designated dugout (bench) or bullpen area if not a batter, runner, on-deck batter, in the coach’s box on one of the nine players on defense. INTERPRETATION: A maximum of two coaches may be in the immediate area outside the dugout. This would especially apply to single entrance dugouts or dugouts with low fences. In situations with low dugout fences, teams may elect to declare a dead ball area directly in front of the dugout or elect to leave the area in front of the dugout in play. It is highly recommended that as much area as possible be considered live ball territory. 02/25/05
